Spiral staircases can provide for a very efficient use of floor space when accessing attics, lofts, second floor studios, or multilevel decks. They are frequently used in renovation work to create additional space from tall commercial warehouses or office space.

When considering this type of stair system, be sure to check with your local building officials to see which codes you will be required to follow. Because of the small radius of some spiral stairs, minimum tread width at the walk line and baluster spacing need to be confirmed before a final decision is made.
